Game Night Reflection from a Transform Client & Volunteer

Transform hosts events every Friday from 5-8pm to create a space for LGBTQ+ youth and allies to spend time together and build community through crafts, games, guest speakers, and fun activities. One of our first clients ever, Jen, who is now a member of Transform’s youth council and volunteering, wrote about her experiences at Transform’s monthly game night.

My name is Jen, I’m a volunteer and I’ve been a client at Transform twice. I love all the events hosted by Transform and the organization itself but there’s just something so special to me about game night.

You’d be surprised how much fun board games can be when you’re around the right people. Transform game night always feels like you’re in the right spot. The people you meet there are some of the warmest friends you’ll ever see. Even though you might be playing games with a total stranger, you feel like you’ve been besties since kindergarten. There’s just something so incredible about sitting down and bonding with someone over a few hands of Uno or a game of Battleship.

Transform is an organization based around fitting in even when everyone says you never will and game night is definitely an extension of that philosophy. You feel so welcomed the second you walk through the door. Everyone wants to know you and just hang out. Game night is one of the best experiences I’ve ever had and I think everyone should have the chance to experience it. The atmosphere is full of validation, friendly competition, respect, and just good vibes. I can’t recommend it enough; Transform’s game night is fantastic.
